DESCRIPTION:
Edward Stanton, London (see below), early lantern clock, signed engraved dial with silvered time and alarm chapters, blued steel hand, 30-hour movement has three weight-driven trains driven by two weights, striking hours and alarm on large bell at top, large replacement balance wheel rotates above the top plate without benefit of hairspring, height of clock 16 inches, ca 1670. Edward Stanton is listed in Britten's " Old English Clocks (The Wetherfield Collection)" as "apprenticed to Francis Bowen in 1655, admitted to the freedom of the Clockmakers Company in 1662 and served as Master in 1696."
CONDITION:
May tick, restored or replaced balance, fine condition overall, dubious use of clothesline for pulleys.
